FAQ

Here’s a bunch of questions we get asked on the regular. Still can’t find what you’re looking for? Shoot us an email and we’ll sort you out.

So is Alternative Women’s Fitness a gym or what?

Alternative Women’s Fitness is a fitness ALTERNATIVE.

We are NOT a f#cking gym. You won’t find any treadmills or spin classes here - our aim is to give you something way better. Our classes offer a new approach to training and socialising, while still providing all the benefits of a professional fitness regime.

Does AWF have any joining or membership fees?

Nup! We are as straight up as you can get, with no sneaky joining or membership fees. You only pay for the classes you book in.

How the heck does it work?

So, recently we’ve gone all flexible, for most sessions anyway.

Boxing and Muaythai sessions are always part of a structured 6 week program;

See Program >

Everything else can now be booked in when you feel like it!

See FLEXI SCHEDULE >

How do I cancel a sesh?

We have full terms and conditions here if you’d like to have the full read..

With everything we need a min 8 hours notice;

If you are booked in for a program, we may be able to provide you with a make up session *pending availability,

If you are attending everything else, you may be able to re-schedule on another day. If you don't cancel within the 8 hours you lose your session.

How much does it cost?

Programs may vary pending the session/ duration > and can be viewed when you click on the session.

Everything else, you can purchase packs and use like credits to smash over various music categories, if you love your metal, check out the Metal packs > that you can smash onto your metal session bookings. Same goes for Dance and Rock…

What can I use my PiNK POiNTS on?

You can use your PiNK POiNTS on all PiNK BOXiNG, Rebelle Boxing, MuayThai and Clothing/ Accessories. These points can only be applied online at checkout.

Do I need to be fit before I join?

Are you kidding? Not at all! In fact, if you’re unfit AWF is the best place for you to get started. If you feel funny or nervous about the idea of joining us, just email the Head Coach with ANY questions or concerns you may have.

One thing is certain - with our energetic and passionate crew, you’ll quickly find yourself happy, healthy and motivated. You’ll kick serious fitness goals, and strive toward new ones.

Are your trainers qualified?

Hell yeah! Our bad-arse crew excel in their fields and are all about offering an alternative route to fitness. We wouldn’t leave our recruits in their capable hands if they didn’t seriously know their shit.

Do you offer casual bookings?

Boxing/ MuayThai Programs – NOPE - we don’t offer casual bookings . This is because we aren’t like the big “Globo Gym” monopolies that see you as just another number. We need commitment to our programs to keep AWF programs alive and running. Think of it as making an appointment each week, to treat yourself and work toward your goals.

Everything else – you will find one sesh pass options > See prices <

Bookings essential? But how do ya do that?

You can book your class online, or flick us an email at bookings[@]alternativewomensfitness.com.au

Bookings are essential and subject to availability, sadly you can’t just rock up and wing it.

What if all the sessions are at capacity/sold out?

In some cases you can join the wait list and/ or join our mailing list! Sessions may change with the introduction of each program/ or seasonally. By joining the mailing list, you’ll stay up to date with new programs and session availability. We also have a bunch of pop up stuff like workshops happening all the time, which we send out regularly to our email subscribers. Always feel free to send us an email if there’s a class you’ve got your heart set on, and we’ll see what we can do.

I’m on holiday for 2 weeks, can I still book in to a program?

We understand life is not always predictable! In most cases you can book in, and pay a discounted fee, or do make-up sessions at other time. However this is always pending the session type and availability. Chuck us an email to find out what we can do for you.

I work shift work and can't commit to a program... Help?

That's cool you will better suit our new flexible booking system >"Casual Club"<

What is AWF’s Diversity Policy?

At Alternative Women’s Fitness we love diversity and welcome all races, fitness levels, religions, nationalities, ages and sexual orientations! As a women’s only gym alternative we recognise that being a woman isn’t just about what parts you are born with and welcome transgender women to come and sweat it out with us.

If you call yourself a woman, no matter what that looks like, the door is wide open.

We strive to create an environment where us gals can feel comfortable, safe and free from discrimination and have a rockin’ good time while doing it. What we’re (not so quietly) saying is that we’re QUEER FRIENDLY. And more than that, some of us are queer so there’s no need to leave your rainbow coloured hairband at home (metaphoric or otherwise).

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual or just plain Sexual, we’re with you.

And for you. And in case you were wondering… We’re not gonna eye-ball ya and ask if you’re pregnant just because you look like a woman who’d be into that, assume you’re straight or ask if anyone is planning a spring wedding – unless you want to share it with us of course!

We will ask you what your fave music is, what kinds of sessions you want and who you wanna be in the world cos we actually give a shit. Seriously. Pull your sneakers on and get down to our rippin’ sessions. We’re totally rad and ready to rock your mind and your body!

Why group sessions?

Group sizes at AWF are boutique, with around 4 - 16 gals (or less) pending the class type. We focus on keeping our group sizes small and intimate, so everybody gets the attention they need and to build a sense of belonging. We love building a social and team focused environment to make everyone feel comfortable and encourage each other.

We get that group fitness may be intimidating, but don’t ever feel nervous about being the new kid on the block. We’ve all been there before and welcome our new recruits with open arms. AWF is about community as much as it is about getting fit and feeling great.

Can I join midway through a program?

This is dependant on which session ya wanna join and what availability is at the time. Email us anytime if something takes your fancy, and we’ll see what we can do for you.

At the moment, please see the below:

Rebelle MT (Muay Thai) – Nope, soz

Pink Boxing/ Rebelle Boxing - Nope, soz

Everything else – Yep!

Boxing and Muay Thai require trained technique. The AWF crew don’t want you to injure yourself, so you can only take part in these session from the beginning of a program. Unless of course you have prior experience, in which case you can email the Head Coach explaining what you’ve done. Or you can view each session descriptions of what is expected;

You can find out about the expectations of these classes, see main menu.

(Beginner intake closes after the 2nd week of FUNdamentals, unless the session is sold out).

Does AWF offer student / concession discounts?

Student concession discount is available, with 5% off all programs only. Make sure you let us know you are entitled to this discount when emailing your booking.

How old do I have to be to come to AWF?

We are currently an 18+ establishment. However, we are introducing some new sessions for teens. Check ‘em out online, join our mailing list, or swing us an email.

What do I wear to the sessions?

Wear what you feel awesome in and that you allows you to move comfortably. We see a lot of band tees kicking around AWF, so feel free to rep your favourite with pride.

Jeans are generally not a great idea, purely for the fact you can’t move around and sweat in ‘em so good. But do bring some extra layers, especially in that colder weather, as once you stop sweating sometimes you need to rug up.

Footwear needs to be something that gives you support and is easy to nip around in. Sneakers, runners, joggers - though for some classes, like Yoga for Rockers, you only need socks or bare feet.

Individual session descriptions online will tell you what’s best to rock up in. We’ll also send you guide when you make your booking.

What do I bring?

We supply mats, equipment and a rad environment, though please bring your own towel and water bottle.

If there’s anything extra required, we’ll let you know in the individual session descriptions.

My back hurts/ I have an injury - can I do any AWF classes?

If you have a serious condition, some sessions may not be suitable. We encourage you to get the all clear from your professional before jumping into anything. You can always feel free to discuss your concerns with the trainer, to see if the class will be suitable. Any questions, we’d love to hear from you so just flick us an email.

I’m pregnant. Can I do AWF classes?

Training during pregnancy should be practiced with caution, due to all the changes going on in your body growing that bebe. First, check with your doctor, midwife, or professional and get the all clear. Some sessions/ movements are off the cards if you’re pregnant. If you’re unsure, send us an email with your query.

Please always let your trainer know if you’ve got a bun in the oven or are planning pregnancy. We are here to look after you, no matter your situation.

Do you offer personal training?

Yes! Our trainers are all fully qualified and capable fitness experts. Some offer personal training sessions if that’s what you’re in the market for. >>> Click here <<<
