LOCAL BUSINESS: Carwyn Cellars

Posted by ReBelle Blogger on

The place to go for craft beers on tap in Thornbury.

Where: 877 High St, Thornbury. A 500m and 5 min walk up the hill from The CLUBhouse. You can drive there in 1 minute but we strongly advise leaving your car at home.

What:
Beer, beer, beer and more beer. And did we mention beer? Carwyn Cellars is unique in that not only is it a seriously stocked bottle shop, you can also nip out into their spacious and newly renovated courtyard for a frosty pint.

If takeaways are what you’re after, Carwyn has an impressive range of boutique wine, spirts and beers. In terms of the beer, familiar craft favourites Boatrocker, BrewDog, Hawkers and Prairie are all stocked in ample supply with countless others.

Though we do recommend taking the time to catch some rays in their new beer garden while the weather is still bearable. Friendly bar staff are happy to let you sample a lick from their huge range of tap beers. If you don’t know your IPA from your EPA they’re ready and willing to help you out, so don’t feel intimidated. Displayed on a gigantic chalkboard, it can be daunting to make a selection. Luckily, they list key info for all brews as well as their price – so you won’t have that awkward moment of ordering a $25 luxury pint and handing them a tenner.

Price range:  This isn’t VB folks, so you’ll have to shed some coin. If you’re drinking there, pots start at anywhere between $6-$7 with pints available at varying increments. The range of the bottle shop is too huge to chat price on, but let’s say if you want to get the good shit you’ll need to part with at least $20.

Opening hours:
Tuesday – Saturday 10am to 11pm. Sunday – Monday 12pm to 10pm.

AWF’s Hot Tip:
Have a suss of what looks good in the bottle shop, and then check out what they’ve got on tap. Chances are you can have a solid try before you buy and experience some new flavours while you’re at it. Make a day of it and treat yourself.
